My basement filled with water and I called my insurance company, Allstate, and tried to file a claim. They stated I did not have flood insurance so I said ok and started to fix the damages, When we turned the power back on to the well, pump water was gushing down my walls so we shut the power back off. I called Allstate again and told them my problem. They said if a pipe is broken it is covered and they will send out an adjuster. The adjuster came out and told me it was not covered; that rain and snow water entered between the garage and house, so I told him I was getting another opinion. He said thatsup to me, so I called around and found a home inspector that is a mold specialist and he came out and confirmed where the water originated. It was from the pipe being broken. While he was inspecting the house my neighbor had 18 of water in their basement and mine was dry so we called Allstate to come out and see what was going on. They told me they could not get anyone out to the house for a week. I was very upset and when I called to tell them what the inspector found they told me the calim was closed even after I told them I was getting a second oppinion. So I called the adjusters supervisor and felt i was getting somewhere. He reopened the claim and talked to my home inspector and told me to get a plumber out and document it and the plumber concluded it was a freeze break so I faxed the info. I was contacted one week later and toldto have a contractor and they will bring a contractor and settle the claim. I was very happy till we met up. They sent the original adjuster and no contractor. He proceded to tell me it was not covered because the house was a bad design, I have lived there for 7 years and never had a problem with no claims and paid faithfully so how is it a bad design and why did they insure it and take my money, in the first place? Problems would of happeded within the 7 years if it was a bad design, The adjuster said he was standing behind his decision so I called his supervisor and got no answer. He was out of his office and could not be reached for another week. My house is unlivable, and I have done everything I can and was told to do. I hired an inspector and a plumber everything that Allstate asked me. My home inspector told me to get a lawyer and do a bad faith claim due to a not paying out on a claim that is legitimate. He will back me 100% but from what I have read online, Allstate does not pay out and screws their clients. Now there is $50,000 in damages due to letting the house sit and I have mold everywhere and I cant pay a lawyer and loose and have to pay to get the house fixed. Bilevel home, 3 bedrooms destroyed, mold everywhere, doors all warped, carpet, tiles, drywall, wood trims trashed. You Are Not In Good Hands With Allstate!!!
MY POINT IS THEY ARE CORRUPT AND DOING PEOPLE WRONG.
If anyone has insurance with these people please cancel and help spread the word about their wrong doings. The only way to fight large companies is with the lose of accounts and money.
"There is no incentive for insurance companies to do what is right, such as live up to the promises made in their policies. Tort reformers fueled by insurance money think big business and the insurance industry need to be protected against "runaway juries." It's the other way around. Big business and the insurance industry have always been able to take care of themselves. The little people need protection from them. This country was founded on the common law right of the little guy to get into court with his hired gun to fight the oppressor, be it big government or big business. Take that away and we have nothing left. Look around. It's being whittled away, bit by bit, caps on damages here, restrictions on jury trials there. It won't end until we recognize the enemy and join together to take a stand against them. It will take the little people to do this together".
